Does your child have dyslexia? We understand how challenging it can be when a bright child is held back by reading difficulties or attention problems. Beyond standard tutoring or medication, there are specialized intervention programs that can dramatically improve these children’s abilities. At our Centurion and Middelburg offices, we offer intensive Dyslexia Intervention Programs – based on approaches like the Davis Dyslexia Correction method to help children with dyslexia and ADD/ADHD overcome their learning barriers. These programs are holistic, one-on-one, and drug-free, focusing on the root causes of the difficulty rather than just the symptoms.
Dyslexia Intervention: Dyslexia is more than just letter reversals – it’s often a different way of thinking and processing information. Many dyslexic learners are highly visual and hands-on, which means traditional reading instruction hasn’t clicked for them. Our intervention harnesses those strengths. We use a creative, multi-sensory approach (similar to the renowned Davis Dyslexia program) to tackle reading and spelling challenges at their core. Instead of weeks of repetitive phonics drills that might still leave your child confused, we start by addressing fundamental issues like orientation and perception. For instance, we teach the child techniques to stabilize their visual focus (so words stop “swimming” on the page). We also help them master the basic symbols of language – letters, punctuation, even common words – in a concrete way. This often involves clay modeling or other tactile activities to form letters and words, linking them with meaning. By doing so, the program “reboots” the way a child’s brain interprets written language.
A hallmark of this approach is that it works at the root level of dyslexia, not merely coaching the child to cope. Research has shown it to be a long-lasting, effective method when delivered by trained facilitators. Many families report noticeable improvements in their child’s reading fluency, spelling, and even speech within a relatively short time. In fact, the structured program is often delivered intensively – for example, around 30 hours (spread over about a week or two) of one-on-one sessions rather than dragging on for years. By the end of such an intensive program, the child typically has made a leap in skills and, importantly, confidence. They realize “I can read!” something that might have felt out of reach before. We then equip parents (and teachers, if possible) with follow-up activities to continue reinforcing the progress at home. The result is a reader who is no longer defeated by text, but approaches it with newfound understanding and strategies.
Program format: The program is typically conducted in intensive phases – for example, a few hours per day over a week (often during a school break or a tailored schedule). This immersion helps solidify the techniques quickly. We involve parents in parts of the process, particularly towards the end, so you understand the tools your child has learned and can support them moving forward. After the intensive, we schedule follow-up sessions (maybe after a month or two) to check on progress, troubleshoot any issues, and keep the momentum. By not relying on indefinite weekly sessions, this approach aims to create a significant shift in a short time an improvement that “lasts a lifetime.” Of course, every child is different; some may need additional practice or booster sessions, but the core learning usually happens early on.
Holistic and lasting impact: What’s truly special about these programs is the transformation in the child’s self-esteem. A child who reads haltingly or a teen who can’t sit still often endures daily frustration and negative feedback (“try harder,” “pay attention,” “you got it wrong again”). As they gain skills through our intervention, they also gain pride and hope. They realize their brain is not broken – in fact, they often discover unique strengths (many dyslexics are highly creative). We make sure to celebrate these qualities. Parents have told us their child’s whole demeanor changed: a boy who hated books now enjoys reading about dinosaurs, a girl who couldn’t finish assignments now beams when she can do homework by herself. These programs don’t just aim for short-term academic improvement; they aim for a paradigm shift in how the child approaches learning and how they view themselves.
By addressing the root causes our interventions fill in foundational gaps. This lays the groundwork for continuous growth: once those foundations are in place, your child can keep up with class more easily, often without needing constant tutoring. And if they do get extra help, it’s far more effective now that the core issues are resolved.
It’s also worth noting that these methods are evidence-based and used internationally. The Davis programs, for instance, have been researched by universities in South Africa and abroad with positive results. We bring that expertise to our local community so you don’t have to travel far or resort to trial-and-error with generic solutions.
In summary, our Dyslexia program offer new hope for families. If you’ve felt like you’ve tried everything from reading tutors to behavior charts and your child is still struggling, this could be the turning point. We are passionate about unlocking the gifts of these learners. Many famous entrepreneurs, inventors, and artists had dyslexia; with the right support, your child’s “different” brain can be a huge asset. We’re here to provide that support in a caring, customized way.
