In a smaller town like Middelburg, options for educational psychology can feel limited. If you’ve been driving to Pretoria or Johannesburg for assessments or therapy, or if you’ve put off getting help because the distance felt too much, my practice in Aerorand might be closer than you think.

Most parents I meet have been carrying the worry for months, wondering if they’re overreacting. You’re not. If your child’s struggle is showing up at home or at school, it’s worth understanding. That’s the whole point of this page: to help you decide, without pressure, whether a conversation with me is the right next step.

I’m Ronita Engelbrecht, a registered Educational Psychologist (HPCSA Reg. No: PS 0158127). I grew up in Middelburg. This community matters to me, and I wanted there to be quality educational psychology support available here, not just for families who can travel. I split my time between Centurion and Middelburg, and the Aerorand practice is fully equipped for the same range of services I offer in Gauteng.

Every service I offer at my Centurion practice is also available here. You don’t get a lighter version. See the cards below for what’s on offer, or send a message and I’ll point you to the right starting point.

Signs to look for

Is this about your child?

In smaller towns, parents often wait and hope the phase passes. These are the signs that made other Mpumalanga families pick up the phone:

  • Extra lessons have helped for a year, but the gap keeps returning
  • Teachers change often, and each one starts from zero with your child
  • You're weighing up the drive to Pretoria or Johannesburg for assessments
  • Big feelings at home: meltdowns after school, dread before tests
  • Your Grade 9 or matric teen is quietly drowning and won't say so

How it works

What happens at a first assessment

Most parents I meet in Middelburg are nervous about the unknown: what the assessment involves, whether their child will be upset, how long it takes. Here's what actually happens.

  1. One honest phone call

Phone, WhatsApp, or a message: however you reach me, the first conversation costs nothing. We talk about what you've noticed and whether an assessment makes sense before you commit to anything.

  2. The background meeting

I sit down with you first, without your child, to build the full picture: development, school history, and what home and classroom are both seeing.

  3. Assessment days that respect the drive

Sessions are playful and move at your child's pace. Families travelling on the N4 can often combine sessions into fewer trips; we plan that together when you book.

  4. Feedback without the jargon

When the testing is scored, we meet and I walk you through the findings in everyday language: strengths, struggles, and the practical next steps for home and school.

  5. A report worth the trip

You receive a clear written report accepted by schools and exam boards, so the journey turns into something concrete: support, accommodations, or peace of mind.

Who I am

Local roots, full qualifications

The Aerorand practice exists because of a simple belief: quality educational psychology shouldn't require a trip to Pretoria or Johannesburg. I split my week between Centurion and Middelburg, so this practice runs the same assessments, the same programs, and the same reports as any Gauteng practice, with one difference: here I know the schools, the teachers, and the roads between the towns.

The practice

A place that puts children at ease

23 Constantia Cres, Aerorand, Middelburg, 1055.

The practice is quiet, private, and child-friendly, designed to put young people at ease rather than make them feel like there's something wrong with them.

There's safe parking, and the location is easy to reach from the N4. If you're travelling from further away, we can talk about consolidating sessions or doing part of the feedback by phone, so you're not on the road more than necessary.

Afternoon appointments work best for most families, and I accommodate that where I can.

Where I work

Who I see from this practice

Families travel from right across the Mpumalanga region. Middelburg itself (Aerorand, Dennesig, Gholfsig, Kanonkop, Clubville), as well as Witbank (eMalahleni), Hendrina, and Belfast. I'm also seeing more families from Secunda, Bethal, and even as far as Ermelo who previously had nowhere local to go.

If the distance concerns you, get in touch and we’ll figure out what works.
