Educational Psychologist in Middelburg | Ronita Engelbrecht

In a smaller town like Middelburg, options for educational psychology can feel limited. If you’ve been driving to Pretoria or Johannesburg for assessments or therapy, or if you’ve put off getting help because the distance felt too much — my practice in Aerorand might be closer than you think.

I’m Ronita Engelbrecht, a registered Educational Psychologist (HPCSA Reg. No: PS 0158127). I grew up in Middelburg. This community matters to me, and I wanted there to be quality educational psychology support available here — not just for families who can travel.

I split my time between Centurion and Middelburg, and the Aerorand practice is fully equipped for the same range of services I offer in Gauteng. That includes assessments, therapy, dyslexia intervention, career guidance, and more.

What matters most to me: that a parent in Middelburg, Witbank, or Hendrina gets the same level of care and expertise as someone in a big city — without the three-hour round trip.

Services available in Middelburg

Every service I offer at my Centurion practice is also available here. You don’t get a lighter version.

Psychoeducational assessments are often the starting point. If your child’s teacher has mentioned attention problems, learning gaps, or possible dyslexia, an assessment cuts through the guesswork. It gives you a report you can take to the school, share with your paediatrician, or use to apply for exam concessions (extra time, reader, scribe — I provide documentation that meets IEB, NSC, and Cambridge requirements).

Dyslexia intervention is something I’m particularly passionate about. I’m trained in Davis Methods (from the UK) and Cellfield — two structured, evidence-based approaches that work differently from traditional tutoring. If your child has been doing extra lessons for years with no real progress, this is worth looking into.

School readiness assessments for Grade R learners help you decide whether your child is ready for Grade 1. It’s a play-based assessment, not a stressful test, and you’ll leave with a clear recommendation — not just “maybe.”

Play therapy for children struggling with anxiety, grief, anger, or behaviour. For older children and teens, I adapt the approach — sometimes talking, sometimes journaling or art, always at their pace.

Career guidance and exam stress management are particularly relevant for high school learners. Grade 9 subject choice, post-matric planning, or just managing the pressure of exams — these are real concerns that deserve proper support.

I also offer TRE (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) for children, teens, and adults. It’s a gentle, body-based method that helps release stored tension — helpful for anxiety, stress, or after difficult experiences.

The practice

23 Constantia Ave, Aerorand, Middelburg, 1050.

The practice is quiet, private, and child-friendly — designed to put young people at ease rather than make them feel like there’s something wrong with them. There’s safe parking, and the location is easy to reach from the N4.

Afternoon appointments work best for most families, and I accommodate that where I can.

Who I see from this practice

Families travel from right across the Mpumalanga region — Middelburg itself (Aerorand, Dennesig, Gholfsig, Kanonkop, Clubville), as well as Witbank (eMalahleni), Hendrina, and Belfast. I’m also seeing more families from Secunda, Bethal, and even as far as Ermelo who previously had nowhere local to go.

If the distance concerns you, let’s talk about it. Sometimes we can consolidate sessions or connect via phone for the feedback part, so you’re not on the road more than necessary. Get in touch and we’ll figure out what works.
